On September 25, the seminar series of One Hundred International Scholars by the Faculty of Computing was held online. Invited by Professor Guopu Zhu, Professor Yuan Michael Fang (Yuguang Fang) from City University of Hong Kong presented an academic report entitled Vehicle as a Service (VaaS): Leverage Vehicles to Beef Up the Edge to teachers and students of Faculty of Computing.
Professor Fang Yuguang is currently a chair professor of the Department of Computer Science at City University of Hong Kong, and once served as an outstanding professor at the University of Florida. He was selected as an AAAS Fellow and an IEEE Fellow. The paper has been cited by Google for more than 27000 times, H-index 90. He once served as the chief editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology and IEEE Wireless Communications, and now serves as the editorial board member of several world-class journals.
In this academic report, Professor Fang systematically introduced the basic principles, service advantages and application scenarios of intelligent vehicle networking and Internet of Vehicles. Professor Fang focused on sharing a series of work carried out by his team in the field of Internet of Vehicles in recent years, and introduced how to use intelligent network to connect vehicle technology and vehicle mobility and spectrum characteristics to build an economically reasonable alternative solution for smart cities. In the final question and answer session, Professor Fang emphasized the importance of application background in scientific research for teachers and students, and answered questions about distrust between vehicles and users based on federal learning, service reliability, etc.
The Faculty of Computing has always attached great importance to international cooperation and has been holding international senior scholars lecture project, international well-known computer school directors visit project, outstanding universities partnership project, presentations by international famous universities, enterprises and teachers, as well as international famous universities and enterprises co-training project over the years. This has created a favourable international exchange environment for students and faculties in the Faculty of Computing to improve the international academic influence of the computing science.
