On the afternoon of June 28th, the Faculty of Computing held the academic report on Natural Language Processing and the awarding ceremony of the first Artificial intelligence "Everlasting Talent Award" of one University and three campuses in the 214 Lecture hall of the Activity Center. Professor Li Sheng, former Party Secretary of Harbin Institute of Technology and founder of the Machine Translation Research Laboratory; Professor Shen Yi, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Harbin Institute of Technology; Professor Xu Xiaofei, former vice president of Harbin Institute of Technology, president of Weihai Campus and first dean of the School of Computer Science and the School of Software, alumni and business guests of the Faculty of Computing, Members of the faculty's leadership team and representatives of students and faculty from the three campuses of the university attended the event. Professor Li Hui, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Huang Xuanjing from Fudan University, the current chair of the Asia Pacific AACL of the International Association for Computational Linguistics, were invited to offer guidance. The event was hosted by Professor Zhang Min, the specially-appointed assistant to the president of the Shenzhen campus, and Shan Jiyang, the Party Secretary of the Faculty of Computing.
Shen Yi delivered a speech at the awarding ceremony, paying high tribute to Professor Li Sheng and extending a warm welcome to the alumni who had come from afar. Shen Yi reviewed the exploration and achievements of Harbin Institute of Technology in the field of natural language processing, thanked Professor Li for his outstanding contributions to natural language processing, congratulated and encouraged the first batch of award-winning students to take Professor Li and other outstanding Harbin Institute of Technology computer people as role models and contribute to the great cause of strengthening the country. The "Everlasting Talent Award" was jointly funded by more than ten outstanding alumni of Harbin Institute of Technology in the field of computer science, including Zhou Ming and Wang Haifeng, with the aim of rewarding students who have made significant achievements in the field of artificial intelligence research and continuing the "Harbin Institute of Technology Computer Brand Talent phenomenon" in the intelligent era. Finally, Professor Li, in his speech, reviewed the development of the research laboratory, shared his teaching career and insights, and hoped that through the honor carrier of the "Everlasting Life Award", he would encourage young students to inherit and carry forward the "Guangxi Spirit", so that this spirit of perseverance, innovation and dedication can be passed down from generation to generation and thrive. After the awarding ceremony, Zhang Min presided over an academic report on natural language processing. Professor Huang Xuanjing addressed the conference on behalf of the Chinese Information Processing Society of China.
