Harbin Institute of Technology is hosting the 28th National Forum for Directors and Deans of Computer Science Departments in Higher Education Institutions

The National Forum of Directors/Deans of Computer Science Departments, hosted by the Executive Committee of the National Forum of Directors/Deans of Computer Science Departments and organized by our university, was held in Harbin on August 23-24. Cheng Shuang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education of Heilongjiang Province, Yin Xia, director of the Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University, and Academician Chen Jie, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, attended the opening ceremony of the forum and delivered speeches. Chen Su, Secretary of the Party Group and director of the Department of Science and Technology of Heilongjiang Province, An Shi, executive deputy secretary of the Party Committee, and Liu Ting, Vice President of the university, attended the meeting.

Nearly 300 experts and scholars from computer science departments of 146 universities across the country attended the forum. Wang Guohua, dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology and deputy director of the Faculty of Computing, presided over the opening ceremony of the forum.

Cheng Shuang said that this forum is not only a concrete action to implement the decisions and plans of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, but also a precise grasp of future changes. Heilongjiang attaches great importance to the development of computers and artificial intelligence, regards the development of the digital economy as a leading strategy and solution for high-quality development and sustainable revitalization, seizes the opportunities of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, gives full play to the advantages of science and education, and promotes the digital industrialization and industrial digitalization in a coordinated manner. To the future, Heilongjiang will empower with policies to create a hotland of innovation in Heilongjiang, build a highland of computing power in cold regions by gathering momentum with platforms, and jointly explore the digital blue ocean in the northern frontier by attracting intelligence through openness. Together with colleagues across the country, we will create a bright future for the development of computer science and artificial intelligence.

Yin Xia said that as participants, witnesses and promoters of the development of the computer discipline in China, we should consciously integrate the development of the department into the national strategic demands and the process of The Times, take it as our responsibility to serve the major national strategies and meet the urgent needs of society, take the initiative to make forward-looking plans, seize the commanding heights of future development, respond effectively to changes, strive to open up new situations and open up new horizons for the development of the computer discipline. This forum is a platform for gathering wisdom and discussing major plans. It is hoped that the participants will grasp the pulse of The Times with a high sense of responsibility, communicate sincerely, discuss deeply, adhere to the right path and innovate, and work together to promote the construction of China's computer discipline to a new level of higher quality.

Chen Jie said that as one of the earliest institutions in China to offer a computer science major, Harbin Institute of Technology has always attached great importance to the development and construction of the computing discipline, and regards promoting the high-quality development of the computing discipline as an important strategy to serve the construction of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation.  It is hoped that the experts present will take this forum as an opportunity to exchange ideas, stimulate vitality and seek common development, and inject lasting impetus into promoting the formation of new quality productive forces and promoting high-quality development. Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) will work with its sister institutions to jointly plan for the frontiers of science, build mechanisms for talent cultivation, and share resources for platform construction, to create a cross-disciplinary innovation highland that supports high-level self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology.

This year's forum, themed AI New Wave in Computer Science: Challenges and Opportunities, features seven keynote speeches, two senior dean/department head forums, three parallel sub-forums, and 15 invited speeches. Experts and scholars will focus on topics such as Prospects for the Development of Computer Science in the Digital Intelligence Era, Computer Education and Talent Cultivation for Students' Ability Enhancement, AI New Wave and Reform of Computer Talent Cultivation, Trends in the Core Development of Computer Science in the AI Era, Interdisciplinary Integration of Computer Science in the AI Wave, In-depth discussions focused on talent cultivation, discipline construction, and cross-integration in the field of computer science, jointly exploring the future development path of the computer science.

Liu Ting, on behalf of our university, delivered a keynote speech titled Research Breakthroughs and Technology Transfer in University-Enterprise Cooperation. He said that the computing discipline group (computer science and technology, software engineering, cyberspace security, artificial intelligence) is a highly practical discipline, and high-tech enterprises have obvious advantages in terms of funds, talents, scenarios, data and computing power. Universities urgently need to carry out comprehensive, in-depth and long-term cooperation with enterprises in multiple aspects such as scientific research, technology transfer and talent cultivation. He took the practice of the computing discipline group of Harbin Institute of Technology conducting school-enterprise cooperation at a world-class university as an example to explore the development goals, realization conditions and guarantee mechanisms of industry-education integration in the context of the artificial intelligence era, summarize the experience of school-enterprise cooperation, and jointly expand new paradigm of industry-education integration development.

Professor Xu Xiaofei presided over the senior deans and department heads forum session on Computer Education and Talent Development for Students' Ability Enhancement. The forum focused on five major topics including the focus of education in the digital age, changes and constants of core elements, and delved deeply into issues such as AI empowering the entire teaching and learning process, systematic capabilities and sustainable competitiveness cultivation, multi-dimensional practical ability cultivation paths for students, and the transformation of teachers' roles into ability cultivators and wisdom enlighteners, providing key guidance for the reform of computer education and the cultivation of innovative talents.

The forum was organized by the Faculty of Computing at Harbin Institute of Technology. To ensure the efficient and orderly conduct of the forum, the leadership team of the Faculty of Computing made early plans and overall arrangements, and formed a special working team composed of young teachers, administrative staff, counselors and student volunteers to provide full service for the conference, laying a solid foundation for the successful holding of the forum.

It is understood that since its establishment in 1998, the National Forum for Directors/Deans of Computer Science Departments in universities has been dedicated to providing an academic exchange platform for deans and directors of computer science and related departments in universities across the country, promoting exchanges and mutual learning among departments of computer science and related majors nationwide, and enhancing the level of talent cultivation, discipline construction, education and teaching, and scientific research in computer-related majors. It has made significant contributions to the development of computer science and artificial intelligence in China.
