Undergraduate Program

Today HIT-CST offers degrees with 4 majors in computer science and technology, information security, Software Engineering,and bioinformatics. These majorsaim to eequip high-level talents with professional skills and knowledge in computer science and technology.More than 1,000 undergraduate students of the4 majors are now studying atHIT-CST. Over one hundred courses are offered and a multi-type of modernized teaching strategies such as online teaching and flipped classroom are utilized at HIT-CST.

Goals and Graduation Requirments

1. Computer Science and Technology Major

Upon completion of theComputer Science and Technology major, the graduates are expected to master the fundamental theory and specialized knowledge in computer science and technology, and obtain the basic capacity ofscientific research and technical work. They should possess the capability of abstract and logical thinking, and are equippedwith various concepts about systems. When they graduate from HIT, the Computer Science and Technology majors have many options in terms of pursuing their interests in the fields:Some are employed directly to companies, while others may pursue graduate studies in computer science (specializing in such diverse areas as artificial intelligence, computer architecture, software theory, networks,or graphics).

The students in Computer Science and Technology major should complete the education program including all of curriculums and practical trainings. Before being considered for the graduation, each student must complete 161.5 units in total, including 48 units from general education courses, 84.5 units from specialized courses, 25 units from practical programs and 4 units from innovation programs, and his graduation design (thesis) must be qualified.

2. Information Security Major

Theundergraduates of this major take the cryptology, network security, software security, system security, and information security management. Upon completion of the major, the graduatesshould have a deeper understanding about the information system security, network security and information safety, and grasp the defense technology. Some graduates are engaged in netwok security and information security research and developmentand others choose to pursue graduate studies, domestic or abroad.

The students in information security major should complete the education program including all of curriculums and practical trainings. Before being considered for the graduation, each student must complete 172.5 units in total, including 55.5 units from general education courses, 80.5 units from specialized courses, 36.5 units from practical programs (4 units from innovation programs), and his graduation design (thesis) must be qualified.

3. Bioinformatics Major

The undergraduates of this major take the life sciences, biotechnology, information technology courses as their foundational courses, with life information acquisition, processing, exploitation and utilization as their core knowledge. The importance the foundationaltheories are stressed, and wide caliber trainings are encouraged, aiming to make the graduates adapt to the rapid development of the new science. Some graduates are engaged in biological information science research and development, some in teaching in universities, and others choose to pursue graduate studies, domestic or abroad.

The students in bioinformation major should complete the education program including all of curriculums and practical trainings. Before being considered for the graduation, each student must complete 168 units in total, including 57 units from general education courses, 81 units from specialized courses, 30 units from practical programs (4 units from innovation programs), and his graduation design (thesis) must be qualified.

4. Software Engineering Major

The undergraduates of this major are expected to master the basic knowledge of natural sciences, humanities & social sciences, as well as the basic theories of computer science and technology relevant to software engineering, familiar with the basic knowledge and application knowledge of software engineering specialty. Furthermore, the graduates should possess computational thinking and the abilities of system analysis, design, developing, management and service in the domain of software engineering applications with advanced engineering methods, techniques and tools. With the experiences of software engineering practice and project organization, a good ability of foreign language usage, great skills in team cooperation, and strong senses of innovation and entrepreneurship, the graduates should become high-caliber talents with an international level of competence in software industry, who could adapt to the progress of technology and the change of social demand.

Before being considered for the graduation, each student must complete 168.5 units in total, including 54.5units from general education courses, 59.5 units from specialized courses, 54.5 units from practical programs, and his graduation design (thesis) must be qualified.
