Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon, part-time doctoral supervisor in Computer Application Technology at HIT. He is the managing director and the senior researcher of Microsoft Research Asia. He was the chief architect of Microsoft Speech.Net product of Microsoft in 2000-2004. Prior to joining Microsoft, he was chief scientist and chief architect at APP-ISS in Apple Inc. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Carnegie Mellon University in 1992. He was the co-inventor of the famous SPHINX speech recognition system with Dr. Kai-Fu Lee. He has published over 90 papers in prestigious conferences and journals. He co-authored a book on speech language processing. He is the associate chief editor of the journal of IEEE Transaction on Speech and Audio Processing. In addition, he is the owner of 35 pieces of US patents.
