Research Center of Perception and Computing was founded in 1998 with the previous name “Research Center of Bio-computing”. To cope with the rising challenges in Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Biological System Modeling, the center was renamed as “Research Center of Perception and Computing” in 2013. The center has 10 faculty members, including 5 professors and 5 associate professors, including 6 PhD supervisors, 1 “1000-Talent Program” Scholar, 1 IEEE Fellow, 3 IEEE Senior Members, and 2 NCET Scholars. Currently, there are 20 PhD students and 34 master students in our lab. The main research fields of the center include biometric recognition, machine learning, computational modeling of biological system, pattern recognition, computer visionmedical image processing and data mining. Our center has published over 300 papers in international academic peer-reviewed journals and conferences, including 30 IEEE Trans papers and 15 CVPR/ICCV/ICML/ACM MM/NIPS papers. Recently, our center has undertaken many national natural science foundation (NSFC) projects, national 863 projects, and international cooperative projects. The research center has won 1 second prize award on National Science and Technology Progress, 1 provincial first prize on natural science, and 2 Provincial second prize awards. International collaboration is also a feature of our center. Through the student cooperative training projects and the enhanced cooperation mechanism, our center has built genuine friendly and cooperative relationships with Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Carnegie Mellon University, Manchester University, University of Pittsburgh, UC-Merced, University of Liverpool, etc.
